The USEPA estimates that buildings account for 39% of energy use, 12% of total water consumption, 68% of total electricity consumption and 38% of carbon dioxide emissions. With over 38 million sq. ft. of buildings, Hartz Mountain is uniquely situated to impact these figures and address the environmental challenges that face our society. In 2007, we implemented our Green Building and Sustainability Initiative. Using data collected from nearly 1000 tenants from across our portfolio in 2006 as a baseline, we sought to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by addressing every aspect of our business from architecture to office waste.
